Trial has been delayed until next year for a 59-year-old Ocean View man accused of killing his wife more than six years ago.
Trial for Daniel DeJarnette Jr. is scheduled for June 4 at 9 a.m. before Kona Circuit Judge Ronald Ibarra.
DeJarnette, a retired Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective, was indicted in May for the Nov. 12, 2006, death of 56-year-old Yu DeJarnette. Police said the woman was found lying unresponsive with head injuries at the bottom of a lava embankment near the home.
DeJarnette was arrested at the time on suspicion of murder, but was later released pending further investigation on the advice of prosecutors.
The indictment occurred after DNA testing performed on evidence, Deputy Prosecutor Linda Walton told the Tribune-Herald in May.
DeJarnette is in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $200,000 bail.
